Servers

This is a brief introduction to the topic. If you are looking more in-depth information, I would recommend this LotRO Guide.

Like all other MMORPGs on the market, the Lord of the Ring Online by creators Turbine depends on servers (aka realms in its more popular use) to allows its game players to make a choice of their preferable game play type of their own and to enable the game to give the full support to as many subscribers as it does. Currently the LotR Online has only nine realms in total available for both North American and European ones.

The North America has seven realms including Brandywine, Elendilmir, Gladden, Landroval - unofficial Role-Playing Server, Meneldor, Silverlode and Windfola, while the Europe owns just two realms consisting of Northmoor and stybba. Also now a Monster Play, or PvMP, is Player versus Monster Player has also been added to the types of realms or severs in addition to the existing four realms comprising Normal (also known as PvE or player versus environment), PvP (player versus player), RP (a role-playing Normal/PvE server) and RP-PvP (role-playing PvP server).

The best part of using servers or realms is that players can switch from one realm to another to best suit their style of game play, maximizing the enjoyment of the game. Normally players can choose to play on whatever realms or servers they want to, but the game tends to encourage them to select the recommended realms where are more highly populated than others. In case you want to know about the status of each realm, it can also be checked out on the official LotRO website.
